Quality Water Consumption

Did you know that the human body is made up of about 60% water, and your blood is about 90% water? Water is necessary to keep several of the systems within our bodies functioning properly, including the digestive system, regulating blood circulation, lubricating and increasing the functionality of our joints and keeping our skin clear and hydrated. Your body needs an adequate amount of water to function at its fullest capacity.

An easy way to make sure you are consuming enough water daily is to drink half your body weight in fluid ounces. For example, if you weigh 180 pounds, aim for 90 fluid ounces of water each day.

Another way to increase your water intake is to swap out beverages that are high in sugar and caffeine, such as sodas, teas, juices, energy drinks or coffee. Consuming too many of these beverages can lead to dehydration or prevent your body from properly utilizing it for its daily needs.

When you supply your body with the proper amount of quality water, you will experience more energy, healthier and suppler skin and a clearer mind. At optimal hydration, you will also have clear or very light-colored urine. Try carrying a large water bottle with you everywhere to ensure you are consuming enough water.

There are a few factors to take into consideration when determining how much water you should consume in a day. For example, if you are an extremely active person, you should drink more water than the average person. The location and climate you are in also matter; if you live somewhere hot and humid, you will need to consume more water than if you lived in a cooler climate to keep your body regulated.

It can be difficult to tell whether you are dehydrated or need more water, but these are a few signs to look out for:

  1. Muscle cramps: Dehydration can lead to muscles cramps, specifically in your legs and arms. If you notice frequent cramps, it could be due to a lack of water.
  2. Fatigue and dizziness: If you do not drink enough water throughout the day, you may find yourself feeling very tired and lightheaded. Supplying yourself with the adequate amount of water daily will ensure your brain is receiving enough water and can prevent these symptoms.
  3. Dark-colored urine: If you notice your urine is bright yellow, this could indicate you are not drinking enough water. When you’re drinking enough water, your urine will be clear, similar to how water looks.
  4. Joint pain and headaches: These could both be an indicator you are not drinking enough water throughout the day.

By paying attention to these signs and symptoms, you will be able to better understand the amount of water your body needs to function at its best possible ability.
