Positive Affirmations

How do you begin your day? Do you take time to speak to yourself in a positive way?

How you treat yourself mentally, physically and emotionally has a direct effect on your mood and atmosphere daily. The good news is you have the ability to make sure your thoughts are positive instead of negative. Research shows that when you incorporate positive affirmations into each day, your mood and thoughts will be more positive, creating a better work, home and personal environment for yourself.

Positive affirmations can be a word, a short phrase, a poem or a song lyric that means something to you. They have the ability to get you out of a negative headspace and into a positive one. Positive affirmations are a reminder that you are in control of your thoughts and environment. They can also increase your self-confidence, self-love, emotional strength, energy and success in your goals and future endeavors.

How to Use Affirmations

  1. Ground yourself in the moment by sitting or standing tall and taking a few deep, controlled breaths.
  2. Look at yourself in a mirror or close your eyes wherever you are.
  3. Say your affirmation out loud slowly and clearly.
  4. Repeat your affirmation 3-5 times; listen to yourself, and believe in your words.

Positive affirmations are meant to be personal and personalized. You may wake up one day feeling less energized, so you may make your affirmation something that will encourage you to stay energized all day. On another day, you may wake up feeling self-doubt and make your affirmation something that will lift you up. Turning off negative self-talk first thing in the morning has the ability to lead you to a happier, healthier life.
